MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN Celebrates 50th Birthday In Style
May 13, 2014According to The Pulse Of Radio, TOOL, A PERFECT CIRCLE and PUSCIFER frontman Maynard James Keenan actually turned 50 back on April 17, but got around to celebrating his five decades on Earth this past weekend (May 10 and May 11) with two concerts at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. A PERFECT CIRCLE and PUSCIFER performed on both nights, and although TOOL didn't do the same, members of that band also showed up for the festivities.
PUSCIFER played a 14-song set both nights, with A PERFECT CIRCLE guitarist Billy Howerdel sitting in for the song "Monsoons" both times.
Danny Carey got behind the kit for PUSCIFER on the night of May 10, playing four songs that included TOOL's "Sober". TOOL bassist Justin Chancellor also showed up for that.
On May 11, Maynard's son Devo Keenan performed a cello solo before helping out on "The Humbling River".
A PERFECT CIRCLE also performed both nights, focusing on songs from the band's two all-original studio albums and just one number from covers album "eMOTIVe". The latest A PERFECT CIRCLE number, "By And Down", closed Saturday's show.
Recently reunited alternative act FAILURE also performed at Keenan's birthday party and were joined by the guest of honor on several numbers.
TOOL has supposedly been working on its first album since 2006's "10,000 Days" in recent months, although there has been little to no info on its progress.
